D e s c r i p t i o n
This is the Earthworks Journals A4 brown leather journal with our Tree of Life design hand tooled onto the cover. It is bound in a single thick piece of vegetable tanned leather and has a beautiful, antiqued brown finish which picks out the design and natural markings in the full-grain leather; this makes each book unique. The covers are held closed by two tie cords finished with leather beads.

With its large size it's great for those of you with a lot to write about. It makes a great personal journal or notebook and is perfect for recording your family history and events.

We originally made our replaceable page books for storing finished work but many of our customers love the flexibility of being able to remove and replace the pages and use them as everyday journals or notebooks.

D e s i g n
The Tree of Life is a symbol that is found in most cultures throughout the world, from Ygdrassil of the Norsemen to the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. Trees have been of great spiritual importance throughout history, usually representing the link between heaven and earth. People have traditionally gained enlightenment while sitting under their branches, their fruit and sap have provided knowledge and immortality.
In this, our own Tree of Life design, the branches reach upward towards the light and heaven and open outwards to receive inspiration, their spiraling form represent spiritual growth. This is mirrored by the roots which spiral downward into the dark earth to receive nourishment. On the axis the horizontal line represents harmony and balance while the vertical represents the journey from the physical to the spiritual.

Approximately 230 pages (460 sides) of A4 sized, unlined, recycled, paper.
This is a binder style book which has the benefit of having removable pages. The paper can be replaced easily with any A4 pre-punched paper, it is held in place by a cord that fastens at the back of the book.

P a p e r
Our paper is 100% recycled and is a natural, off-white, oatmeal colour with faint flecks. It has a matt appearance and a slight texture. It takes most fountain pens without 'bleeding' and has a weight of 80gsm.
It is acid-free archival quality, which is great if you're planning on leaving your words for future generations!
