Bound in a single thick piece of vegetable tanned leather this journal has one of our hand tooled designs on the cover. The beautiful antiqued finish is applied by hand to pick out the design and the natural markings in the leather. This makes each book unique and the tone and grain of your journal may vary from the image shown. The covers are held closed by two cords finished with leather beads.
This is our version of a traditional old-school tattoo depicting symbols of love. Hearts and roses have always been symbols of pure love but the swallow has a more complex history. It was once popular with sailors as it was believed to carry their souls to heaven if they died at sea. It has now become a symbol of enduring love, as swallows mate for life. The pages in this book are hand bound using a strong waxed cord. No glue is used, so the spine of the book cannot be broken, our binding is strong and permanent.
We're proud to say that this award winning paper is 100% recycled from unbleached post-consumer waste, which saves water, energy and trees.
It is a natural, off-white, oatmeal colour with faint flecks. It has a matt appearance, is slightly textured and it takes most fountain pens without 'bleeding'.
It's of archival quality which means that it will last for hundreds of years. This is great if you're planning on leaving your words for future generations!
We can personalise this journal for you by hand carving text into the scroll on the design and this is totally free of charge for a maximum of ten characters (spaces count as characters). This can be a name, a message such as I LOVE YOU, or two sets of initials separated by a heart, an ampersand (&), or a plus (+). Example text can be seen in the images.
